Camp Stars 2018

McCURDY MINISTRIES CAMP STARS PROGRAM INFORMATION
(McCurdy Schools of Northern New Mexico is a registered nonprofit corporation.
The corporation also uses the trade name McCurdy Ministries.)

Camp Stars is a summer educational enrichment camp combining the best of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and vacation bible school for students who have completed Preschool through 5th grade." And then add the following clarifying sentence, "Meaning, Children who have completed preschool and will be in kindergarten the following school year, through children who have completed 5th grade and will be in 6th grade the following school year

Research shows students who participate in a year round learning retain learning better and start the next school year ahead of their classmates. McCurdy Ministries is perfectly positioned to provide a safe, fun environment for the summer.  The Camp Stars scripture is,

“When I look up at your skies, at what your fingers made— the moon and the stars that you set firmly in place—what are human beings that you think about them; what are human beings that you pay attention to them?” Psalm 8:3–4

The first Camp Stars session included science, engineering, arts, drama, leadership, crafts, Bible stories, math, technology and music. Lunch and breakfast were provided on a daily basis in partnership with the Rio Arriba County Breakfast and Lunch Program. Students, age 18 and under were able to eat free.

Students participated in service projects and field trips.. Presenters came to give information on the service projects presents to the children. These presentations enriched the chidren's knowledge, motivated them to support the service project, allowed children to to see there are people in need they can help.

We have received many positive responses from students, parents, teachers and administrators about Camp Stars. Three students who attended Camp Stars chose to change schools to McCurdy Charter School after their experience at camp.

Plans are being made to roll out the next CAMP STARS summer program. Information will be posted by in the coming weeks.
