Behavior Management

School is a very social environment that lends it's self to students learning and practicing self management, self motivation, group work, independent work, time management, and social skills. In our classroom, students will be asked to identify decisions they make--both good and poor. Poor decisions will result in students taking responsibility by marking the board for recess detention and filling out a Reflection Journal that helps identify why the decision was wrong and what alternative decisions were available so the next time the students has the tools to make better decisions next time. McCurdy classrooms will be using the "Character Counts" curriculum to help develop character. I am very familiar with this program and feel it blends beautifully with our study of Christian character as well. Character Counts is based on six "pillars". These pillars are: Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Fairness, and Citizenship. Our class will be examining these pillars monthly as well as using the "What Would Jesus Do?" work book. Please use these pillars as keystones in discussions around character and choices. Here at McCurdy we work towards building strong academics and strong Christian character in a supportive and safe environment. If you have any questions about our classroom, please ask.

The students will learn about the consequences of their decisions. This is most effective when consequences are directly related to the decisions made. This refers to both good decisions and poor decisions. Any discipline issues that arise, I will notify parents through "parent note" attached to the agenda. All notes that are sent home must be signed by the parent and returned so I may verify the note has been seen by a parent. Serious infractions of school policy and class rules will result in the event being written up and refereed to the Principal. Any concerns a parent may have can be shared with me through e-mail, notes, or person to person by making an appointment. A strong team of parents, students, and school faculty depends on good communication. Each team member is responsible for supporting the educational process. I look forward to working with you.
