Reading Buddies
Reading Buddies are often what make the difference in a child reading on grade level which changes the trajectory of their life. A caring, vetted, and trained adult provides the support a child needs to improve their reading skills, build confidence, and foster a love for reading, especially if they are struggling or lack motivation to read on their own. Someone who believes in you helps you believe in yourself.

Be a Reading Buddy
Stopping summer slide (which is what we do every summer) simply isn’t enough. That is why we LEER has created ways to read with children during the school year. Reading matters and oftentimes building a trusted relationship with a child is what makes them want to be a better reader. That is why weekly reading buddies during the school year are so important.
Afterschool Reading Buddies read weekly as a part of LEER’s STARS Afterschool program in Kidspace. You choose either Monday or Thursday from 4:15-5:15. You will read with 2 children for 25 minutes each.
In-School Reading Buddies read during the school day mornings (T, W, or Th) for one hour with 2nd graders at JHR or TEQ Elementary. You will read with 2 children for twenty minutes each on a weekly basis.
Help children read books at their level while fostering a love for reading. Books, materials and support are provided.
