Weekly Devotional
Our Weekly Devotionals are sent out every Saturday morning. They are written by different members of our McCurdy community, from staff to board members, to volunteers. Each devotional includes a Scripture reading and a reflection from the author on what it means to them.

Resurrection Love by Lauri Riddle
Mary discovers the empty tomb. The disciples are confused and do not know what to make of it. Mary is crying. Jesus appears to be gone. Then Mary turns around to see who she thinks is the gardener and Jesus responds with “Mary.” Jesus calls her by name, and she instantly knows He is the risen Lord. Back in 1912, Dr. Adam Geibel asked C. Austin Miles to write a hymn text that would be tender in every line and bring hope to the hopeless. This was a time in history when the first Balkan War began, the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, and the Novarupta eruption occurred in Alaska (the largest volcanic eruption in the twentieth century).

Our Inclusive God by Mark Prokop
Today is Easter Vigil, one of the few times that we have no information in the gospels about what Jesus is doing. The lectionary readings for today all highlight the great deeds of God throughout history. Exodus 14 reading is the primary text for the day and the scripture for this devotional is a short excerpt. We all know the big story–Israel escaped Egypt after the plagues and is now being pursued by Pharaoh and his army, but they have come to the shore of the Red Sea. What is interesting is that the Israelites cry out, Moses stops them and waits for God to act. God responds that they need to keep going and that they need to be part of the solution.

You Are Never Too Old by Fred Pomeroy
Many of our devotional readers are retired or near retirement and are enjoying “the golden years.” Many members of the McCurdy Ministries Board of Trustees and McCurdy Ministries Foundation Board are in this category. Thus, the question arises, “Why are they (or we) still serving the Lord in these various capacities?”

Shining the Love of Christ by Linda Polson
Many years ago, I was taught that our lives should be like a lantern that shines the light of Christ into the darkness of this world. The light that I am to shine does not come from me or my deeds, no matter how righteous or holy I think my life may be. It comes from Jesus Christ living in me. If Christ is in me, then His truth and His love will shine through me in everything I say and do.
